Novaal is an orphan, she was found wrapped in a blanket, behind the door of Queen Felna's palace. The queen took care of her for a few days and later entrusted her to a foster family. Because of this, Novaal and Felna became very close, the Sygnalus ruler almost acting like a second mother to the kid. When she grew older, Novaal would always be willing to help the inhabitants of Waterfall City, she pretty much befriended every Swan with of her optimism and kindness.

Novaal was taking her classes with the queen's son, Touan, with the help of their personal teacher, professor Albopictus. Touan was a very scholar bird, while Novaal barely paid attention to her classes. Even if the two were very different, they quickly became best friends! Touan and Novaal would spend hours goofing around and playing games together. Felna trusted the two a lot, she was certain Touan’s intelligence and Novaal's kindness would be a perfect combination for ruling... so, three hundred years later, Felna retired, giving the crown to her son and his best friend.

Two years later, the two beloved rulers decided to go in the Green Mantis forest, which was made a forbidden area ever since Guillaz, Touan's father, got exiled to the Gate.
Both eventually came near the Gate. Novaal didn't know why this area of the forest was locked with chains, Touan having to remember her that they learned the reason in history class. The Swan suspiciously asked his friend how she didn't know that, Novaal admitting to him that she never paid attention to her history classes and that they were "too long ago"... Which is just an excuse, Swans may be immortal but have an excellent memory.
Touan abstained himself to explain to Novaal who was exiled to the other side and what the Gate did to Guillaz, instead telling her unknown poor creatures were suffering and desperately needed help in the other world. Novaal believed him fully, wanting to find a solution to help said creatures. A few days later, she decided to enter the Gate, Touan promising to accompany her in her adventure.
But once they got to the Gate and removed the chains, Touan suddenly pushed her through it, Novaal turning into a dislocated Dog like Guillaz before her. The traitor closed the chains of the portal once again, leaving his "friend" stuck to the other side. He made up a lie for his subjects to believe about Queen Novaal falling into a ravine, even organizing a funeral for her.

But revenge is a dish best served cold...
